The European Union ranks among the ten largest cotton exporters worldwide, with an annual production of around 360.000 tons. This quantity accounts for:

•2% of world production.
•40% of EU domestic needs.

75% percent of the cotton is exported to Mediterranean countries (Turkey, Egypt, Morocco) and Southeast Asia, while the remaining 25% is used domestically, boosting the textile industry in Europe.
